Claus Sievert
German-born artist Claus Sievert’s finely detailed etchings of California trees – sequoias, oaks, and junipers- go on display Thursday in the Crocker Russell Library of Horticulture at San Francisco’s Strybing Arboretum. Inspired by the printmaking methods of the old European masters, Sievert uses drypoint, aquatint, and other etching techniques to print these pieces, then hand-colors each one with watercolor or acrylic.
