Founded in 1953, the Graphic Arts Workshop has fostered 65 years of innovative printmaking. THEN and NOW presents a tribute to the Workshop’s founders with a smattering of their original, often groundbreaking artworks, alongside current members’ most recent endeavors. The Graphic Arts Workshop, also located here in Dogpatch, is a printmakers’ cooperative. The Workshop, with its evolving roster of members, attracts a dedicated, impassioned ilk of artists: from the politically outspoken in the age of McCarthyism to Twenty-first Century commentators, Graphic Arts Workshop members continue to bring their visions and insights to fruition in a supportive studio environment. Working together while mastering various printmaking techniques, including intaglio etching, letterpress, lithography, silkscreen, woodcut, and monotype, current members maintain a thriving level of output and creativity, proudly displayed in this commemorative exhibition.
