Application Procedure
Submit this application, along with a portfolio of recent original prints, a resume (including education and art-related experience) and your application fee to the GAW (address above) on a convenient day and time before the second Sunday of the month.
Your portfolio will then be reviewed by current members. Please submit a portfolio of recent work. The basis of this critique is only to determine if a prospective member has an understanding of the processes and procedures of printmaking; it is not a critique of the aesthetics of your work.
An application fee of $320.00 is required upon submission of a portfolio for review. This includes a non-refundable application fee of $170.00 and the first month’s dues of $170.00. The dues are refundable only if you are not accepted as a full member of the workshop. All new members are admitted provisionally, subject to the procedure outlined below.
Requirements for Provisional Members
Once your application has been accepted you will be a Provisional Member until the following requirements are fulfilled:
- Attend an orientation meeting.
- Use the studio a minimum of 15 hours under the supervision of a full member.
- Demonstrate to the Graphic Arts Workshop Council the ability to use the studio safely and in a manner befitting a member of a cooperative. Members are expected to respect the materials and equipment provided by the Workshop; to clean up after using the studio; to participate in the ongoing maintenance of the Workshop (see Maintenance Jobs List), and to use ONLY material and equipment upon which they have demonstrated proficiency. If a member wishes to learn a new area of concentration, please arrange for instruction elsewhere before handling unfamiliar material and equipment. While members may share their expertise, the Workshop is not a school.
Orientation session and 15 hours of supervised use of Workshop facilities by provisional/probationary members. Make arrangements with any full member for an orientation session and to begin the required fifteen hours of supervised use of the Workshop. You may do so by calling ahead to see if anyone is at the Workshop or making arrangements to meet a member there. Upon completion of the supervised work time, the council will notify you regarding full membership status. You may then arrange to receive your key to the studio and sign the contract.
