Alice Gibbons

My work is mostly representational, of which, I use landscapes; urban and rural… A good majority of my subjects are local places, California, and particularly, San Francisco. I am fascinated by these places of which people use and live in. I like to inquire into the relationships that we have with our environment; what we do with it, and what we leave behind in it. By doing these images, I get involved as I am working on a portrait of a person. The environment is the reflection of our relationship. Therefore, it is a portrait. My prints are mostly black or sepia etchings. I choose in order to focus on the mood, tone, and detail, with the intention to depict a world in which I am the viewer can enter and experience.
