Javier Chalini

Creating images is an exploration of profound understanding of what I have lived or learned but hadn’t made fully conscious.

Through the creative process I build my visual narrative walking between past and present, gathering memories, collective concepts, myths, and daily events. This helps me to pass beyond simplistic forms and concepts, allowing me to create images that represent mostly the human experience through the eyes of the surreal, idiosyncratic, satirical, and imaginative.

Printmaking, especially metal etching print gives me the ability to create and interact with its different techniques to develop my ideas until the point that the metal plate takes on a life of its own and then the evolution of my imagery becomes like a communion with the medium. It is a game of give and take; sometimes new shapes and textures appear giving to the creation an interesting depth and meaning.
